1953 Ace Hardware Private Label Semi Truck and Trailer
The 1953 Tonka Toys Cab over design was unique in 1953 because the front grill had three vertical lines in the grill that were reduced in size to form an inverted "V" shape. The cab of this truck as all Tonka Cab overs were a clever design of a tabbed " upper" section that slid into a channel on the lower section forming the cab design. The bed of this truck was made of wood and these had held up surprisingly well. Later models of the semi trucks would be made with a pressed steel bed.
This front view shows the grill detail better, the light catches each pressed line in the grill shape.
This side shot really shows the beauty of these terrific toys trucks, it is no wonder they have become a popular item to collect.
The back doors open to load whatever precious cargo a child's imagination could dream up and fit through the ramp/doorway.

Truck tires on plated steel wheels, full floating rear tandem axle on trailer. Locking stand wheels. L 22 1/2 H 9 1/4 W 6 1/4" This is the beginning of a long line of semi trucks that were to be produced by Tonka Toys. From Private label semi trucks and trailer to Tonka branded transport trucks. This Truck as specially made for Ace Hardware to sell to its customers. In the 50's Hardware stores were popular places to find "toys" for dad and thier kids.
