1957 Tonka Toys Number 46 Suburban Pumper
From the original 1957 Look Book Catalog: No. 46 Suburban Pumper it actually" hooks up" to its own miniature hydrant ( included) that can be connected to any standard garden hose. Realistic hydrant wrench controls water to the pumper and flow from the big forty inch fire hose. Two six-inch hydrant hoses are carried on one side of the truck. removable 10 a half-inch ladder on the other fire hose winds on reel, has hook for attaching to other equipment. 17 inches long, 6 1/2 inches high, 6 inches wide.
This front view shows the grill detail better, The 1957 Grill is actually held in place by the Plastic clip in headlights with the bumper riveted on the body of the truck. This view shows the hoods coop detail, the 1957 series of Ford looking Tonka Trucks had this scoop. No other year had this terrific looking hood feature. The other notable feature of the 1957 series trucks was the change in the windshield posts, these are small and changed to a vertical position with less slant than the 1954, 1955 and 1956 trucks.
This is a beautiful example of the suburban pumper. I should note the Fire Hydrant was never made as this one is shown. The paint was worn on it as most of Tonka Toys Fire Hydrants are so I stripped the paint and polished it to a bright finish shown.
Note the operating side doors on this beautiful Vintage Tonka Toy Fire Truck, these operating doors would be later removed in 1963 and renumbered to a 926 Suburban Pumper.
